FARM WORK DELAYED.
Wet Conditions Hamper Operations.
Farming operations in Canterbury have been delayed again by- rain, which was general over the province during the night. Earlier this week the sodden state of the ground had caused a cessation of sowing. Farmers have been waiting for some weeks for a spell of good weather to dry- out the ground and make it ready for the drill. The lush growth of grass has had its effect on stock. . The wet conditions tend to cause digestive troubles and parasitic conditions among the animals. At Springfield heavy- rain began to fall at six o’clock last night, and continued at intervals until ten o’clock this morning. Snow had fallen on the hills, and they were covered about half-way down. Conditions were cold, but the weather was beginning to clear. At Cheviot ran fell this morning, but the weather showed signs of clearing. At Alcaroa the .sky- was clear this morning, after rain. Heavy .showers fell at Ashburton y-esterday afternoon and during the night, but there also conditions were improving.
