SECRETARIES’ INSTITUTE.
The annual meeting of the New Zealand Division of the Australasian Institute of Secretaries was held in Auckland recently. Mr L. C. TI. Dawson presided. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the chairman stated that New Zealand members numbered 213 out of a total institute membership of 2350. An increasing number of candidates was offering for examination, there, being 42 at the September sitting. The chairman stressed the need for specialised training, for since the passing of the new Companies Act the duties of a secretary had been considerably increased. By engaging skilled lecturers to address members on various aspects of the Act, and by encouraging candidates to present themselves for examinations which specialised in Company Law, it was hoped to achieve this end. The retiring councillors, Messrs 11. B. Burnett. L. C. IT. Dawson, G. O’Jlalloran, X. Porter and T. IS. Whitton, were re-elected. Mr F PI. Bass was appointed to fill a casual vacancy on the council.
