Floods Feared Near Kaikoura. WARNING TO MOTORISTS. Three inches of rain during the last forty-eight hours in the Kaikoura district has caused all the creeks and rivers to rise, and it is expected that there will be floods if the rain does not cease. The service car which left Kaikoura this morning for Waiau had to return, the road being impassable Stony Creek, about two miles south of Kaikoura. was particular!v high, but was not impassable at 1.45. Car drivers report snow in the higher hills. The road in the vicinity of Seddon and Kekerangu is covered with water in parts. Weather conditions are very cold in the district. Warning to Motorists. Advice was received by the Canterbun.* Automobile Association this afternoon that the Christchurch-Blen-heim road is virtually impassable. All creeks beyond Kaikoura are in full flood, and onlj - one car was able to get through this morning. It is recommended that no private cars should attempt the journey. Stony Creek is reported to be exceptionally high. Two small slips were reported to-day in the Otira Gorge which it was hoped would be cleared by to-night. The road would then be in normal condition. Hutt River Very High. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON*, October 2. The Hutt River rose about twelve feet above normal due to last night’s downpour, the highest level being recorded at about 3 a m. The main road was flooded at Silverstream and only cars with high clearances were able to get through. Flood waters were troublesome in various parts of the valley, but no serious damage has been reported.
