YOUTH IN THE AIR.
Training the Aviators of To-morrow. PUBLIC SCHOOLS' CAMP. (Special to the “ Star.”) LONDON, August 25. Interest the schoolboy of to-day in flying and he will be the aviator of to-morrow. Norfolk and Norwich Aero Club had this in mind when they organised the I first public schools aviation camp at | Mousehole! Aerodrome, says the “ News Chronicle.” For £3O boys from public schools are j given four to five weeks’ healthy holiday under canvas, thorough flying and j ground training for an A ” license, j and a wide range of sports from tenj nis to boating. | Mr 11. Birchall, a master at Taunton School, told how the idea was born. He is a keen pilot and an old j member of the club. “ One of my boys is destined for an administrative post in Africa,” he said. “He was advised that, in view of the enormous territory to be covered, he would stand a much better chance if he could fly. The idea occurred to me, ‘ why not a flying training camp for schoolboys?’ The boys are from Taunton, Stowe, Canford, Radley, Rossall and Shrewsbury schools, Wrekin College, Wycliffe College and King’s College, ’ Wimbledon. They are very keen and already know a lot about flying. Listen to young 17 talking: “You see, I don't just want to fly. I want to go in for aviation properly. There seems to be too many doctors and | lawyers and all those things, but flying [ is going to get bigger and bigger.” lie is a type. More than keen, he is I thrilled with flying. He is a sample jof the younger generation which accepts the aeroplane with unquestioning faith as a means of transport as J yet in its infancy.
