ROYAL VISIT.
Schcol Children to Meet Duke. Arrangements for the gathering of ‘ schcol children at Lancaster Park on the morning of Mcndav, January 21, to meet the Duke of Gloucester were discussed at a meeting of a special | committee vesterdav afternoon. There were present: The'Mavor (Mr .D. G. Sullivan. M.P.). Councillors F. T. Evans and T. Andrews, the Hon W. Hayward, I M.L.C., Messrs C. S. Thompson (chairman of the Canterbury Education | Board), L. F. de Berry and W. Rod-: gcr (representatives of the Canterbury Headmasters’ Association), [. S. Neville (Town Clerk). and J. F. Eame? (assistant Town Clerk). Mr Sullivan said that the. Duke of j Gloucester would arrive in Christ- j church on Saturday. January 19, and j would be accorded a public reception at noon. On Sunday he would visit Akarca, and on Monday he would | meet the school children at Lancaster | Park in the morning. Councillor Evans was elected chair- j man of the committee, and Mr L. E. Rowley (assistant secretary to the Canterbury Education B.oard) secretary. It was decided that pupils from the primary schools should be from Standards IV. to AT., and that secondary, i technical and private schools be asked j to co-operate. j A sub-committee consisting of Messrs j Thompson, de Berry and Rodger was j set up to draw up an outline of the ! programme and to consult the Educa- ; tion Board’s physical instructors as to j suitable exercises for a display. Mr Thompson said the Education Board would take steps to find out how many pupils and teachers would be available for the fathering.
