One winner on Saturday and three yesterday was the share of Keith Voitre of the good things at the Taumarunui meeting at Paerca. With 14 wins, he is now well ahead on the winning jockeys’ list. L. J. Ellis is next with nine wins. MVARTEXS THIRD, Maurice M’Carten scored his third success, in the A.J.C. Derby when he won on Theo on Satujday. lie also won on Ballymena in 1923 and on Ammon Ra in 1931. *T. Hales holds the riding record for this event. lie won it six times. M’Carten has yet’ ta win a Victoria Derby, but he should have bright prospects this time. DESMOND IX LIMELIGHT. The St Simon horse Desmond is much in the racing picture at the moment. He is the sire of Limond. whose sons. Theo and Waikare. have won the A.J.C. Derby and the Metropolitan at Randwick. Desmond is also sire of Clure, dam of Treclare, whose son Wise Boy won the Breeders’ Plate yesterday. REIIAXPICAPPRI) Ruanui has been re-handicapped from 10.1 to 10.7 in the Kapiti Hack Hurdle j race to be run at the Otaki-Maori meeting op Friday. Gold Trail has been penalised from 9.0 to 9.3 in the Ling Memorial Stakes at the same fixture. XiGIIT RAID FILLY WINS. Kotu, who won the Prince of Wales Handicap, for two-year-olds, at the Xapier Park meeting on Saturday, is a bay filly by Xight Raid from Courtesy, by Limond from Homage, by Absurd from the Cicero mare Eulogy. She was bred and is owned by Mr T. 11. Lowry. She is described as a neatly moulded filly, somewhat on the small side. DT’ VERFA'CE IX WEIGHTS. V. hen Saxophone beat Osculate by a head in the seven furlong Trial Handicap at Riverton on March 31, she was received 151 b. She has to concede Osculate 21b in the Maungatua Handicap at Wingatui on Thursday. They both won later at the Riverton fixture, while Saxophone was successful also at Wingatui on September 1. J MUNRO AX I) EPSOM. J. Munro, who is credited with having ridden a great race on Silver Ring in the A.J.C. Epsom Handicap on Saturday. had previously won that event three times. He was on Boaster, deadheat with Metellus in 1925, Amounis <1926) and Amounis (1928). GOLD TRAILS WTX. The dividends in the Park Stakes at Greenmeadows on Saturday were paid out on exactly the same horses as they were in the race last December. Gold Trail, who reappeared after a spell since the last Auckland Cup to run an excellent race at Foxton a week earlier, was supported only slightly less than the recent Wanganui winner Limbohm, and after being always handily placed behind the pacemaker Lady Spy in a fast-run race she did best over the closing stage to score by a length from Emotion, who also came home well to deprive Lady Spy and Limbohm narrowly of the other dividend. Gold Trail and Emotion filled the same plaeings in December. Except for the Auckland Cup, Gold Trail had not raced again prior to Foxton. Emotion's hurdling does not appear to have affected his ability on the flat, but he has yet to win a mile and a quarter handicap, though he has many times been just beaten. Lady Spy and Limbohm both went good races, but Cyclonic and Sunny Sky were disappointing. Chopin was running on, and Brambletorn was not ready for the distance, but should be benefited with the race. Gold Trail has 7.4 in the New Zealand Cup. TWO-YEAR-OLD WINNER Galilee, who beat Gay Sheik in the Nursery Handicap at Paeroa yesterday, is a chestnut filly by Chief Ruler from the English mare Lady Bede, by Adam Bede from Lady William, by William Rufus. Adam Bede was by Adam (son of Rathbeale) from Grace Guinberts, by Sainfoin from Maid of Mentmore, by Cameliard from Corisande, by King Tom. Mr E. H. Cucksey bred Galilee.
.MAY GO TO MELBOURNE. K. Yoilre has been engaged to ride : Limbohm in the Mitchelson Cup. If his form justifies it. he will then be : sent to Victoria for the Melbourne Cup. He is a son cf Limond, which is more ! than ever a recommendation just now. WASH DYKE ENTRIES. Excellent nominations have been rel ceived for the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday week. ' Among the entrants are Argentic, , Sweet Agnes, Great Star, Polydora, i Some Shamble. Ranelagh, Cranford. Silvox, Knockfin, Water Power, Rebel Star, Silver Streak and Cough. NIGHTLY'S GOOD FORM, | Nightly appears to have run a race [in the Metropolitan fully justifying I the highest opinions formed of him : here. lie had top-weight. and his rider, Roy Reed, was disappointed several times in seeking an opening. Time was when minor-place-getters in the Metropolitan were held to be extra dangerous candidates for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. That has not worked out so well in recent 3-ears, though Topical was placed in both the Metropolitan and the Melbourne Cup last year. Poseidon (1906), Apologue (1907), Piastre (1912), Westcourt (1917), and N'ightmarch (1929) all won the Melbourne Cup after having finished second in the A.J.C. event. Nightly had 8.13 yesterday. lie has 9.2 in the Caulfield Cup and 9.0 in the Melbourne Cup. If only he can stand up to his preparation he must have a decided chance in the Melbourne Cup. He finished web at the end of a mile and five furlongs. WIN FOR F. D. JONES. F. D. Jones has had a lot of worry with the members of his team now in Sydney, and his success with Shatter in the Squatters’ Handicap at Randwick will please Christchurch racegoers. So far the Riccarton contingent has had much the best of matters compared with ether Dominion teams competing at the A.J.C. fixture. In fact, the majority of the New Zealand teams in Sydney must have had an expensive trip to date. X.Z-BRED HORSES. At Randwick, yesterday, prize money aggregated £7250. Of this sum, £4105 was captured by New Zealand-bred horses and £3145 by their Australian rivals. For the two days the figures are:—Stakes, £16,750; New Zealandbred horses, £9905; Australian-bred horses, £6845. BREEDERS’ PLATE VICTOR, Wise Boy, winner of the A.J.C. Breeders’ Plate yesterday, cost only 80 guineas as a yearling. He is a gelding, so is ineligible for next season’s classics. Wise Bov is by the Tredennis horse Treclare, who died last season. The youngster was bred by Messrs A. E. Thompson and sons at Bylong Station, Rylstone (N.S.W.). His dam, Wiseacre, is by Linacre from Sanity*, by San try* ( son of Gallinule), from Nicandra, by* St Serf. Latharna, who finished third in the Breeders’ Plate, cost Major P. Kerr Smiley, a patron of J. T. Jamieson, 800 guineas at the last Trentham sales. Tie is by Limond from the Pommern mare Pomyris, and is therefore a half-brother to Pomp and belongs to the same family as Colorado. W AIK A RES SUCCESS. Mr E. J. Watt has won many important races in New Zealand and Australia. In the Commonwealth, he has won races in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia. Waikare gave him his second success in the Metropolitan at Randwick, Pershore, also New Zealand-bred, having been successful for him in 1920. Like the Derby winner, Theo, Waikare was bred by* Mr G. M. Currie at the Kai Iwi Stud. He is a brother to Agrion. being by* Limcnd -from Waterwmgs. by Absurd from Sea Elf. by Seaton Delaval from St Evelyn, who comes from the Pulchra family, from which came Multiform, Cruciform and hosts of other gallopers of class. Waikare cost 650 guineas as a yearling and he is trainer by* George Price. As a two-year-old. Waikare won a Maiden Nursery at Warwick Farm and was third in the A.J.C. December Nursery. He was unplaced twice. Last season he won the Queensland Derby, A. T.C. Grantham Stakes and a high-weight at Hawkesbury. He was second once and unplaced twice. LATE RESULTS. Second Day at Paeroa.
