Sensational Arrests Made in France. MANY CRIMES ALLEGED. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received September 24, noon). LILLE, September 23. A scandal temporarily overshadowing the Stavisky and Prince affairs, has followed the arrest of Police Inspector Mariani, Lieutenant Casanova and seven others, who, ft Vs alleged, were involved in drug-running, whiteslavery. blackmail, card-sharping, forgery and racketeering. The police on searching Mariani’s and Casanova’s homes round marked cards, forged motor licenses, blank arrest warrants and compromising letters from their victims. Several prominent people may be involved. Other arrests are likely. Inspector Mariani associated with leading society people. The arrests followed an offer to sell a garage-owner stolen fiscal stamps.
