CONSTANCE BENNETT.

Popular Actress Starred in “ Moulin Rouge.” “ Moulin Rouge,” which heads the attractive programme at the Plaza Theatre this week, is a triumph for that ever-popular actress, Constance Bennett. The story concerns the attraction the stage holds for a young married woman, Helen by name, and its results. Previous to her marriage Helen had been on the stage with Raquel, a girl who resembles, her in every detail except colouring. Raquel has since become famous, and Helen’s husband, a playwright, is engaged in writing a play in which Raquel is intended to be starred. Helen, however, still has ambitions, and takes advantage of Raquel’s desire for withdrawal to take her place. She plays the part of Raquel so successfully that she comes near to wrecking her own conjugal happiness, for her husband comes under the spell of the supposed celebrity. The striking thing about the whole picture is the way Constance Bennett plays the two widely differing roles of Helen and Raquel Besides this, the production is a spectacular one. and many dazzling ballets are presented. The film is particularly well provided with music. First-class “ shorts ” complete the bill of fare.
