FARM PRODUCTION.

Governor-General Optimistic About Fututre. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 26. A survey of the present farm acreage under production in New Zealand and a forecast of the potential development if no restriction is contemplated were made by Dr A. 11, Cockayne, Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, in a paper read before the Wellington Philosophical Society. The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, patron of the society, was present. In moving a vote of thanks to Dr Cockayne, Lord Bledisloe said “it was a little dangerous, in the light of past experience, to be prophetic as to the future of production in New Zealand. With every month that passed, however, he was more and more'a confirmed optimist about the economic outlook of the country and the number of people it would be possible to place on the land.
