A substantial increase in the sustenance rates for unemployed in the four main centres was announced by the Minister of Employment, the lion Adam Hamilton, after a meeting of the Unemployment Board to-day. The Minister also announced that all married men in camps would be placed on standard rates of pay. The new rates for the four main centres are as follows: Single men. 10s. Married man. with wife getting old age pension, 17s. Married man, 20s. Married man with one child, 235. Married man with two children, 265. Married man with three children. 28s. Married man with four children, 30s. Married man with five children, 325. Married man with six children, 34s Married man with seven children or more, 365. » The sustenance rates for the secondary centres have also been increased, and are now as follows: Single man, 7s Gd. Married man, 17s Gd. Married man with one child, 20s Gd. Married man with two children, 23s Married man with three children. 25>. Married man with four children, 275. Married man with five children or more, 30s. The Minister also said that the board was hopeful before the session ended that it would be possible to recommend relief in taxation in hardship cases.
