COAL FOR THE POOR

Hospital Board Votes Big Sum. A proposal submitted by the Finance Committee to vote £SOO for the purchase of coal for necessitous cases was approved by the North Canterbury Hospital Board to-day. The need for providing coal was stressed in a letter to the committee from the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.), who stated that there had been a serious drop in the contributions to the Coal and Blanket Fund. The grant made by the committee will not be spent solely in helping city people, but will be drawn on to help any needy cases in the board’s district.
