Ward on Sunday afternoon, in Avonside Churchyard, was largely attended by relatives, friends and representatives of the Returned Soldiers’ Association.. As a tribute to the deceased who was a member of the second New Zealand Expeditionary Force and served four years at the front, representatives of the Returned Soldiers’ Association recited Lawrence Binyon’s lines from “For the Fallen,” and poppies were dropped into the grave as an act of remembrance. The pall-bearers were Messrs Leicester Ward, Bernard Ward, Marcus C. Ward, Lawrence C. Petrie, A E. Melville Lawrence (nephews of deceased) and Mr E. Watkins.
