MRS KIPPAX SAILS.
Going to England on Health Trip. SYDNEY, July 21. In view of the Cricket Board of Control’s attitude tc the question of cricketers’ wives accompanying their husbands on tour, great interest is being taken in the departure of Mrs Allan Kippax by the Orsova to-day. “All that I can say is that I am going on a health trip,” she said. “Your name is on the ship’s list as bound for London,” she was informed. “You cafi’t get killed for that,” she replied. Mr W. Jeanes, secretary of the Board of Control, in a statement made in Adelaide. said that no application had been made by Kippax for permission for his wife to go to England. In a message from London. Mr Harold Bushbv, manager of the team-, explains that Mrs Kippax will not arrive in England until after the departure of the team on September 29 and will not travel homeward by the same steamer as the team. Kippax will leave for home from either Toulon or Naples. Mr Bushbv had nothing to say in reference to Kippax meeting his wife on the Continent.
Playing Out the Fifth Test. There is some uncertainty concerning the circumstances in which the fifth Test may be played out to a finish. The position now simply is: If the present Test ends in a draw, the fifth will be played out. If either side wins the present Test the fifth will be limited to four days. That procedure is in accordance with the arrangement made by England and Australia in November, 1932. The decision then was: The final Test at the Oval will be played to a finish if neither side has won two matches or if the results are equal. That the Australian Board of Control. at its meeting in February, deputed the captain and manager of the Test team to seek an altered arrangement from the Marylebone Cricket Club
cannot now affect the arrangements for this tour. The Australian proposal for future tours is that, if the difference in wins is not greater than one, the final Test should be played out.
