EXPORT OF EGGS.
First Shipment of New Season Next Month.
The export of eggs from Canterbury for the coming season will commence next month, and alreadj- application has been made for space on a vessel bound for England. It is expected that the exports will be similar to those o.f last year, when 4800 crates or 140,000 dozen eggs were shipped to the Home markets. Last year the producers received a return of approximately lOd per dozen. Breakages were negligible, amounting to a few dozen only.
Up to the present New Zealand egg exporters have not attempted to carry out any scheme of advertising, but this year it is proposed to issue show cards with each crate sent forward. In this connection the Canterbury Egg Export Committee is considering suitable designs for show cards. At the instigation of this committee. New Zealand will also be represented ior the first time with an exhibition of eggs at the Royal Agricultural Show to be held in London in October next. It is considered that the exhibition will have great advertising value so far as New Zealand eggs are concerned. For several years past Australia, South Africa and Canada have been exhibiting regularly, and the Canterbury committee has entered two crates of eggs for the forthcoming fixture. The entry was sent forward last mail, and the exhibit will be shipped early in September. Arrangements have been made with the High Commissioner’s Office for the staging of the exhibit.
