NEW MEMBERS.
Chamber of Commence Opens Campaign.
During this week members of the Chambers of Commerce throughout New Zealand will concentrate on attracting new subscribers to the organisation. An extensive campaign will be carried out, eachc chamber being in charge of the campaign 1 ocally. Members have been issued with a number of stickers which will be placed on the backs of correspondence going out of each office. Mr A. F. Wright, president of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, in an interview said that the campaign had been launched because it was felt that, at this time more than ever before, there was a necessity for business people to act together in their own interests. The chambers did not take this in too narrow a view, but regarded it from the broad viewpoint as affecting the whole of the Dominion. The secretary of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, Mr J. Roy Smith, said this morning that, although efforts being made to secure new members had commenced only this morning, results were already very encouraging, a number of firms having applied for membership. Special efforts were being made to get into touch with all firms who had recently commenced business operations in the city and it was anticipated that the membership would be materially increased.
