Canterbury Weaknesses.
Dear Sir, —The defeat of Canterbury by Hawke’s Bay has not come as a surprise to a good many followers of the spqrt. I am of the opinion that the selector must take full responsibility for the Shield changing hands. The defeat of Canterbury was undoubtedly due to some inexperienced players, namely, W. Oliver. Mann and Tweedie. Oliver was fair at half-back, but his passes were very wild at times. Mann, on the wring, is a bit on the light side, and w’ith a little more weight and experience should show promise. Tweedie, on the other flank, gave a disappointing exhibition of tackling. Smith, the opposing w’ing. on two occasions just pushed him aside. In both these incidents, tries wefe gained. Had W. Brown been on the wing there would have been every chance of the Shield still remaining in Canterbury. The Canterbury team should be: Roberts, C. Oliver, W. Brown, Mortlock, Hazelhurst, L. Brown, J. Ilattersley, Cottrell, Hattersley, Francis, Howell, Brownlee, Manchester, Andrews and K. Brown.—l am, etc., LESS OLD BOYS.
