DIED IN HOSPITAL.
Woman Collapses Under Anaesthetic. Miss Annie Yallance M’Dowell, thirtynine years of age, formerly residing at 2V, .Coleridge Street, Sydenham, died in the Christchurch Hospital about 6.30 p.m. on Saturday after collapsing under an anaesthetic. An inquest was opened yesterday afternoon before Mr E. D. Mosley, Coroner, and adjourned sine die after evidence of identification had been given. Miss M’Dowell was admitted to the Hospital on July 9 and an operation was performed on July 11. It was subsequently found that a second operation was necessary and this was performed on Saturday. Sergeant R. Henry represented the police at the inquest.
Pillion Rider Hurt. Miss Mona Hartley, twenty years of age, of 244, Main North Road, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital on Saturday evening with head injuries received in a collision between a motor-car and a motor-cycle at the corner of Victoria Street and Bealey Avenue. Miss Hartley was a pillion passenger on the motor-cycle, which was ridden by Mr D. Tavendale, of Harevvood Road. Mr Tavendale was not injured, but Miss Hartley received injuries to the forehead and abrasions to the cheek, ankle and knee. She was taken to hospital by the St John Ambulance. Her condition is not serious. Knocked Down by Car. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, July 22. A middle-aged man, Timothy Lineham, was knocked down by a motorcar near Rakaia last evening and admitted to the Ashburton County Hospital. lie is suffering from a fracture of the base of the skull and other injuries, and was still in a semi-conscious condition this evening. His condition is serious.
