Arrangements in Hand for Street Appeal. STALLS INDOORS. The monthly committee meeting of the Royal New Zealand Society for the i Health of Women and Children (U> - Plunket Society) was held in ihe i ! Plunket Rooms. AJrs J. Cracroft Wil- ! son presided over a large attendance and welcomed Airs W. G. Scannell. a new | member of the committee. At a recent meeting of stallholders for Plunket Day it had been decid.d to erect the stalls for the sale of cake, produce, books, plants, antiques and varieties in the Old Art Gallery, Durham Street, instead of in Victoria Square as in the past. This change was considered a precautionary measure as the weather in early September was unreliable. The depot for flowers would remain in the Canterbury Jockey Club rooms as usual, and violets would be sold in the streets. Airs A. J. Buuz reported that the Canterbury Women’s Club committee had kindly lent her their lounge for a musical evening on August 30 in aid of th cake stall. Airs W. K. Lauchland reported that her commit tete intended to arrange a. hring-and-buv party for Plunket mothers early in August in aid of the shilling stall. Karitane Appeal. A generous donation towards the Karitane Hospital Guinea Appeal had been received from the Hornby subbranch. which, in co-operation with ihe Mothers’ Union and Women's -Institute, had arranged a bring-and-buy party in aid the appeal. Donations had also been received from the Sumner-RedclifEs and Belfast sub-branches s . The Karitane nurses belonging to the Plunket Nurses’ Association intended Holding a stall in Victoria Square on Wednesday, August 8. for the sale of “everything for baby,” as well as cakes and produce. The proceeds would go towards swelling the Karitane Hospital Guinea Appeal. At a special meeting the remits for the coming general conference in Wellington were discussed and delegates appointed. For Karitane Baby Hospital the matron reported twelve babies admitted, eleven discharged, fourteen in hospital. Five mothers were admitted to the mothers’ cottage, five discharged, and four were in residence. Gifts received at the hospital during the month werv as follows:—Apples from Airs L. Sisson, house linen from Airs Hale and Airs Carroll. old linen from Airs Ladd and Afiss Allenby, woollen garments from the Hinds and Woodend-Waikuku subbranches of the Plunket Society and from the Women’s Institute at Cheviot. Nurses’ Reports.
It was reported that Nurse Allen, charge nurse at live Central Plunket Rooms, was away for her annual leave and Nurse N. Garland was relieving on the staff during her absence. The summary of the Plunket Nurses' work for the month was as follows:—In the. prenatal section Nurse Elliot saw 30 new cases, 112 return visits were paid and 28 other visits; 113 cases were under observation. In the post-natal section 95 new baby cases wtere seen and 576 visits paid to homes bv the nurses. Visits to the Plunket Rooms, Central Suburban and country totalled 2208 adults, 1795 babies and 19 older children; IS7 pre-school children were seen and 12 new cases. Babies under supervision totalled 2228, older children under supervision 1660. Three classes of Girl Guides were being held at present.
