EXCELLENT COMEDY.
Sydney Howard Starred in “ Trouble.” “ Trouble,” the featured attraction at the Civic Theatre this week, is an excellent comedy. Sydney Howard, who is remembered for outstanding work in many films, once again scores a huge success in this production. The title of the picture indicates something good in the way of entertainment, but when Howard’s name is given as heading the cast something out of the ordinary is expected. Horace Hollobone (Howard) is a steward aboard a luxury liner which has been chartered for a pleasure cruise, but immediately he puts in an appearance on the boat he finds himself in trouble with the senior steward, and from this incident onwards he keeps the audience rocking with laughter. His most humorous acting is witnessed when he is warned that jewel thieves are on board, and he is given the doubtful privilege of keeping an eye on the suspected persons. He certainly does his best to carry out the orders given him, but he finds his task more difficult than be expects. The thieves disembark at the next port of call—Tangier—and Ilollebone, together with “ Nobby ” Clark (George Turner) follow them to a cafe, where they succeed in getting possession of the stolen jewel. It is in this cafe that Howard does some of his best comedy work. Dressed as Moors, che two comedians immediately find themselves in a strange land, and the strange customs of the people make the work of securing the jewel all the more difficult. Sydney Howard is ably supported bv George Curzon (Captain Vansittart, the master of the vessel), Dorothy Robinson (Miss Vansittart), Hope Davy (Miss Carruthers) and Wally Patch, the senior steward. Two newsreels and a short musical novelty number complete an excellent evening’s entertainment.
