FUNDS FOR RELIEF.

Collection Boxes Placed on Streets.

Four large collection boxes for the Canterbury Progress League’s appeal on behalf of the Mayor’s Relief of Distress Fund have been placed at vantage points on the city streets. The league desires to express its appreciation of the kindly action of four firms of chemists in taking charge of the boxes, which have been placed in front of their premises. These firms have undertaken to take charge of the boxes after shopping hours, thus saving the league the inconvenience of lodging the boxes in the City Council offices each night. The presence of the boxes on the street will give persons not otherwise brought directly in touch with the appeal a chance of participating. In addition, fifty small collection boxes have been placed with prominent trading concerns in the city.
