CHILDREN’S PARTY.

GAMES AND ITEMS. Prizewinners of Best Fancy Costumes. An enjoyable children’s fancy dreg's party was held in St Saviour’s Hall, Queen Street, Sydenham, on Saturday afternoon, when the hall was well filled with mothers and children. Presentations of a bouquet to Mrs Powell and a woolley toy dog to the Rev Powell were made by two of the smaller girls, Rita Mayo and Ruth Conner.

The proceedings were opened with a prayer by the Rev Powell, followed by an address by Mrs Powell. Items were given as follows:—Tap dance duet, Noeline Davey and Betty Hanley: pianoforte solo, Mr Jack Logan: vocal duet, Murray Leslie, Margaret YVeatherhead; song, Josephine Blease: exhibition dance, Noeline Davey and Betty Hanley. Games for the children included musical squares, for which prizes were won by Ngaire Blythe and Graham Allen. Another game that caused a lot of amusement among the children was

“ The Grand Old Duke of York,” accompanied on the cornet by Mr Jack Logan. The judges for the fancy dresses were Mesdames Anderson, Thompson and Boon. After the grand march of all children in fancy dress prizes were presented as follows:—Children over twelve years: Old English 1. Pierrot 2. Boys over twelve: Arab 1, Nigger Minstrel 2. Children, eight to twelve: Shepherdess 1, Hawaiian 2, Japanese special. Boys, eight to twelve: Dutch Boy 1, Fruit Stall 2. Girls, under eight: Ch.istmas Tree 1, Balloons 2. Boys, under eight: Father Christmas 1, Dick Whittington 2, Little Boy Blue special. Girls, most original: Queen of Hearts 1, Spring Show 2, Negress special. Boys, most original: Soldier 1, Horse and Rider 2. Girls, best poster dress: Rainbow Dyes 1, Wool worths 2. Boys, poster dress: Bovril 1, Aulsebrook’s 2, Riverliead Gold special. Girls, cheapest dress: Newspaper 1, Rainbow 2. Boys cheapest dress: Pipe Smoker 1. Indian 2. Smallest girl: Doll. Smallest boy: Butterfly. Mother with most children in fancy dress: Mrs Leslie. Afternoon tea was supplied to all present and sweets and nuts to the children. Mr Childs thanked those present for their attendance, speciallv mentioning the good work of Mrs Smith and Mr J. Logan in the organising of a very successful afternoon.
