“Gypsy” Troup Entertain Audience. MUSICAL SOCIETY'S SOCIAL. The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society held another successful social on Saturday evening in the Durham Street Hall, the theme being a gypsy camp. To carry out this illusion the stage was transformed into a country scene, where the entertainers, dressed as gypsies, had pitched their tent. These “ gypsies ” showed their high musical talents in the performance of the following programme: Chorus, “ Habanera ” from “ Carmen,” with Mrs N. Kerr as soloist; solo, “Where My Caravan has Rested.” Mr E. Rogers; solo and chorus, “Castinetta,” Miss D. Roberts; duet, “Home to Our Mountains,” Mrs N. Kerr and Mr E. Rogers; solo and chorus, “ King of the Road,” Miss K. Clayton; solo, “I Travel the Road.” Mr J. Denham; --chorus, “Smoke Rings,” Quartette, “O, Who will o’er the Downs with Me?” Misses R. Broughton and R. Fulton, Messrs D. Broughton and J. Denham; solo,

“Queen of the Earth,” Mr W. *T. M’Kay; duet and chorus, “In the Dusk of the Twilight,” Misses Roberts and Cooper. Miss April Hargreaves’ graceful gypsy dance was heartily received, as was also a ballet dance which she performed later in the evening. The musical gypsies concluded the camp sing-song with an appeal for financial help when four of the young gypsies, Misses Clayton, Tanner, Blackwell and Fulton, holding a decorated basket each, recited a verse of an original poem (composed for the occasion by Mrs Burgess). The rest of the evening was taken up with a musical competition and instrumental trios were given by the Misses D. and E. Beck and Mr Lummis. Supper was provided by the ladies.

During the evening Mr J. Miller was presented with a prize donated by Mrs A. Sandford, for the person who collected the highest amount for the £IOO drive. Mr Miller’s card showed that he had collected the sum of £4 Is, A sweets stall with Mrs Ferguson in charge, and a cake stall run by Mrs Grant and Miss Benton both did good business.
