Hawke’s Bay Players Congratulated. CANTERBURY’S TRIBUTE. The Ranfurly Shield was handed over to Hawke’s Bay by Mr A. E. M’Phail. | president of the Canterbury Rugby | Union, who congratulated the side I upon their fine win. He said that J possession of the Ranfurly Shield had ! meant fine football for Canterbury, ■ and all the games had been played in the best spirit. Mr M’Phail thanked the Canterbury j teams for their efforts in the past, and then called for cheers for Hawke’s ■ Bay, which were given with a will by i the small crowd that had waited, tiil the finish. E. R. G. Steere, captain of the Hawke’s Bay side, called for cheers ' for the Canterbury players and the Canterbury Rugby Union. “ I’ve had the worries of the Ran- ! furly Shield on my shoulders for six j years, and I’m not very keen on taking i them over again,” said Mr Norman 1 M’Kenzie, selector of the Hawke’s i Bay team. “ I’m proud to-day of the efforts of my boys.” A. I. Cottrell said that the Canter-1 bury team knew there would come a j time when they would have to lose the Shield. “ Canterbury have always been good winners,” he said, “ and now the time has come I hope we are rattling good losers.” Canterbury’s Record.
