AUTHOR’S ESTATE.
Widow’s Claim to Stock Dismissed.
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received July 21, 12.55 p.m.) LONDON. July 20. Arnold Bennett's widow estimated that his gifts to Miss Bennett, formerly known as Miss Cheston, were securities worth £7900, copyrights £4220, and manuscripts valued at £7500. She. did not wish to disturb the settlement whereby Bennett’s child benefited.
Mr Justice Clauson dismissed that part of the action, adding in the course of his judgment that the testator clearly contemplated that though Miss Bennett was to be the owner of the copyright in certain of his plays and manuscripts, the income from them would remain his during his life-time. The widow’s plaim to the stocks and securities which were given to Miss Bennett would be dismissed and the copyright in the testator’s journal and manuscripts would be treated as part of the estate. Miss Bennett will pay three-fifths of the widow’s costs.
