SAFETY ZONE DAMAGED.
Car Crashed into it This Morning. Extensive damage was done to ihe stone coping at the northern end of the safety zone in Cathedral Square at one o'clock this morning when a “ baby ” car driven by Mr P. A. Turner, Ashburton, crashed into it. No one was hurt. The wall was badly damaged. large pieces of stone being scattered about the road. The lamp standard was also broken but the light did not fail. The wooden seat was not damaged. Mr Turner, accompanied by a fr.’end, was proceeding in a northerly direction through the Square when the accident happened. Eye-witnesses said that the car was only travelling at about fifteen miles an hour at the time. The left front mudguard of the car was bent and the radiator slightly dented. A taxi towed the car to a nearby garage.
