Twelfth Round Matches Played. SLIPPERY GROUNDS. The twelfth round of the Canterbury Hockey Association competitions was played to-day. The grounds were wet and slippery and the weather showery. TRINITY v. REDCLIFFS. Redcliffs played two men short. Trinity had the better of the early stages of the game, but splendid defence by Matthews kept the goal intact. C. Rogers defended well for Trinity, who lost a couple of chances through off-side. Trinity kept the game in Reddies’ territor}* most of the first spell, but lost several chances through breaches. J. Coleman broke away for Redcliffs, and, Rogers missing badly, Coleman scored easily. At half-time the score was: Redcliffs 1, Trinity 0. Trinity broke away from the bully and Davies had a shot which Matthews turned aside. A penalty corner gave Trinity a chance, which was not turned to account. Trinity kept up a series of hot attacks but poor shooting lost many goals. Trinity persevered and after a few fruitless penalty corners p. M'Cormick evened the scores from a scramble. A roll-in at half-way ended in Forman gaining possession and oentrfng to Radeliffe, who scooped the ball into the net. Trinity followed up their successes and a few minutes later P. M’Cormick added a third goal. Trinity came again and combined play by Rogers and Radeliffe enabled the latter to add another goal. Trinity went through and Radeliffe added a further goal. Trinity continued their list of successes and in the last m-inutc Radcliffe scored from a penalty corner. The game ended: TRINITY « REDCLIFFS 1 Referees—Messrs A. Graham and R. Montgomery. VARSITY v. SELWYN. Even play marked the opening stages of the match Varsity v. Selwyn. A free hit to Varsity sent Duffield away, Oliff retrieving by finding the line. Selwyn broke away and took play into Varsity’s circle, where Dawe had an unsuccessful shot. Selwyn gained a free hit in a handy position, but a hit-over resulted. Varsity returned play and Ford sent across a good centre, but Bellamy turned the shot outside. Duffield had a shot which was deflected outside. Duffield broke away for Varsity and transferred to Ford, who received in an off-side position. Selwyn returned play and gained a penalty corner, which brought no result. A breach in the circle gave Varsity a penalty corner, from which Hayes netted. Varsity 1, Selwyn 0. Selwyn took a turn on attack and T. Burtt had a shot which went outside. Selwyn came again and Dawe put across a nice centre which Edginton just failed to reach. Half-time score: Varsity 1, Selwyn 0. set the pace on resuming and Hayes sent across a good centre for Barnett to find the net. Varsity 2, Selwyn 0. Dawe was prominent for Selwyn and went through to put the ball over the cross-bar. Varsity returned play and Cooper centred for Barnett to net. Varsity 3. Selwyn 0. Edgington went, through with a solo run for Selwyn. Hall coming out to save. A free hit sent Varsity away, and Duffield had a shot, which went outside. Edgington took play through, but weak shooting gave Hall an easy chance to save. From a roll-in, Barnett received and had a shot, which went over the top. The game ended: VARSITY 3 SELWYN 0 Referees: Messrs R. Grade and H. Teague. SYDENHAM v. TECHNICAL. Sydenham had the better of the opening stages,' several rushes ending in twenty-fives. Heaton sent the Technical forwards away in a promising rush. Dick and Meynell were prominent in a Technical attack, a breach nullifying. Dash saved nicely from Moir. Play was held up while S. Wells was attended to for an injured lip. A shot by Simpson for Sydenham hit thte side of the net. S-ydenham were awarded two penalty corners, from the last of which Moir broke away in a promising run for Technical. V. Wells saved for Sydenham at the expense of a corner. Fullwood went through, forcing Technical to concede a corner. Half-time was called with no score. Two penalty corners to Sydenham were taken without result early in the second spell. Dick came through on his own for Technical, but Reid secured and saved. Technical kept Sydenham hard on defence for a period. Rusbridge was prominent in play leading up to a corner for Sydenham. Both teams tried hard to score, but the state of the ground precluded any good circle play. Rusbridge slipped while taking a shot for Sydenham and the ball went wide. From a scramble Dick scored for Technical. There was no further score. The game end*ed: TECHNICAL 1 SYDENHAM 0 Referee: Mr C. C. Holland.
