The competitive element in sport was the subject of a rather rambling debate at a meeting of the Wellington Education Board, when the question of school competitions was under discussion. “ Pothunting ” was roundly condemned by several speakers, who instanced the deterioration of sport brought about by competition. It was advocated that the game should be played for the game’s sake and not to determine which was the best school in the district. The stand taken by the Headmasters’ Association against primary schools’ competitions was supported by the board.
