Board's Admission.

Action of Magistrate Was Right.

(“Star ” Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tulv 19. COMPLETE ADMISSION that the

action of the Unemployment Board was wrong w r as made by the Hon A. Hamilton in a statement issued to-night, concerning the prosecution against Alexander Rennie at Christchurch yesterday, when the Magistrate took strong exception to the action of the board in demanding repayment of a weekly instalment in excess of the Court order. “The Unemployment Board agrees entirely with the Magistrate’s decision, and when reference was made to the case previously. during April, the board took steps to ensure that there should be no repetition of that procedure,” said Mr Hamilton. “ The only cases to-day where, as a penalty for misrepresentation, the board reduces a worker’s classification are when such action is taken as an alternative to bringing the case before the Court.”
