“LITTLE WOMEN.”

Screen Version of Famous Story Starts To-morrow.

“ Glamour ” will conclude its season at the Tivoli Theatre to-night. “ Little Women,” the talking screen version of the famous nostalgic story which has kept the world enthralled in its old-fashioned sentiment for seventy years, will open at the Tivoli Theatre to-morrow. Louisa May Alcott’s classic had a ready-made potential audience of several million, provided only that the screen translation adhered to the spirit of the original. Honestly, reverently and beautifully so made, with Katharine Hepburn and her supporting players happily fitted to the film version, and George Cukor’s fine feeling for the directorial requirements, ably backed by supervision and technical aid, “ Little Women ” is superbly done and impressive. With Katharine Hepburn as Jo, Joan Bennett as Amy, Frances Dee in the part of Meg and Jean Parker doing Beth, the simple lives of the colonial sisters, the neighbourly graces and the joys and sorrows of the March family, strike powerfully at the emotions. Douglas Montgomery is splendid as the romantic juvenile, and Paul Lukas brings a fine maturity to the role of the professor- Katharine Hepburn does a great job with the difficult, hoydenish Jo, and Franees Dee is probablv next best as Meg, especiallv in the sensitive love scenes. Box plans at the D.I.C.
