BLENHEIM PIONEER’S DEATH
Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, July 20. The death has occurred at Christchurch of Mrs Ellen Farmar, aged 93 3'ears, widow of the late F. T. Farmar, a former Mayor of Blenheim. She arrived in Nelson with herp arents by the Olympus in 1842 and married Mr Farmar in 1859. The next year they came to Blenheim where Mr Farmar was in business as a cordial manufacturer. She resided here for 74 years and took up residence in Christchurch in 1906. Mrs Farmar had vivid recollections of the hardships of the Nelson pioneers, and remembered the Wairau Massacre. She is survived by the following family: Mr F. B. Farmar (Blenheim), Captain Frank Farmar, of the steamer Port Fairey, Mr Charles Farmar (Canterbury), Mesdames H. W. Horton (Blenheim), R. Scott (Blenheim), A. Nairn (Christchurch), S. Broadbent (King Country), and twenty grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
