TELEVISION.
Having Uphill Fight Against Commercial Interests. SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENTS. United Press Assn.—By Electric • Telegraph—Copyright. (Received July 17, 12.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, 'July 17. Mr Ewart Chappie, who is Controller of Programmes in New South Wales for the Australian Broadcasting Commission, interviewed on his arrival from London, said that research work on television was advancing steadily in Great Britain and laboratory experiments were proving most successful, but television had not yet reached a stage when it could safely be submitted to the public. However, certain large shops in England were already selling television sets, which were very imperfect, for about £l2.
Television had an uphill fight ahead against commercial interests, including talkies, but would not be long delayed.
