“NOT UNDERSTOOD.”

Recitation Given at Tariff Meeting. Per Press Association. lIAWERA, July 3. An unexpected difficulty arose at the end of a meeting addressed by Mr William Goodfellow and Mr Albert Russell on behalf of the reciprocal trade movement here last night, when the Mayor (Mr J. E. Campbell), as chairman, refused to allow his name to be used in the resolutions urging the Government to take certain steps with regard to tariffs. Mr Russell said that this was the first occasion on which a chairman had demurred. Mr Russell then recited in impressive manner two verses of “ Not Understood”—including the stanza, “ Poor Souls wjth Stunted Vision.” Mr Campbell regained firm and finally a member of the audience undertook to see that the resolutions were forwarded.
