NEW CITY THEATRES.
Construction to Begin About August 4.
Construction work on the two new theatres for Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., the State, which will be built on the corner of Colombo and Gloucester Streets, known as Carey’s corner, and the Roxy, to be erected on the site ,recently occupied by Smith’s Garage, in Worcester Street, will probably begin about August 4. This was announced to-dav bv Mr Lester Sinclair, Dominion exhibition manager for the company. Mr Sinclair said that all the tenants with the exception of one concerned in the Gloucester Street property were due to vacate their premises by July 14, and the work of demolition would begin the following day. It was also hoped to start work on the Worcester Street site about that time.
