Tommy Donovan Beats Johnny M’Kay. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, June 25. Displaying all the speed, aggressiveness and elusiveness that characterised him In his heyday. Tommy Donovan (9st 51b) defeated Johnny M’Kay (Gisborne, 9st 61b) over fifteen rounds of two minutes each at Napier to-night. It was a points verdict. Generally Donovan had the best of the fight all the way through, but M’Kay die? not for a moment allow the pace to slacken It was a thrilling encounter, with both men giving and taking a vast amount of punishment in frequent toe-to-toe exchanges. The earlier part of the bout was frequently interspersed with clinching and holding, for which both men were repeatedly warned, but In the latter stages the pace and openness increased. It was a popular verdict.
