Argument.—The photographs appeared in ar. advertisement. The advertisers should be allowed to supply the answer. Mars.— (1) The approximate distances from the earth to the various planets of the solsr system in millions of miles are as follows:—Mercury, maximum 136, minimum 50; Venus 161, 25; Mars 248, 35; Jupiter 600, 367; Saturn 1028, 744; Uranus 1960, 1606: Neptune 2910, 2677. (2) The distances of the planets from the sun are as follows: —Mercury, maximum 43,355,000 miles. minimum 28,566,000 miles; Venus 67.653 000, 66,738.000: Earth 94.152,000. 91,342,000; Mars 154.760.00fi, 128.330,000: Jupiter 506,710,000. 459,940.C 00; Saturn 935.570,000. 836,700,000; Uranus 1,866.800,000, 1.698.800,000: Neptune 2,817,400,000. 2 769,600,000. (3) The markings on Mars have never been definitely established as canals. There are far too many of these so-called canals to enumerate their widths.
