LABOUR WINS SEATS.

Tasmanian General Elections.

United Press Assm—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.

HOBART, June 10. There will probably be many new faces in the Tasmanian Parliament as the outcome of yesterday’s general election, complete returns of which will not be known for several days. The Nationalist Government, now led by Sir Walter Lee, which is the only Government to have retained office during the depression in Australia, is likely to have a close call on this occasion. Labour having won seats in Bass, Denison and Franklin.

It is not expected that the Government will have a majority of more than two, and it may even be a tie. All the Ministers, except Mr E. Hobbs, Honorary Minister, are safe. The candidates numbered seventyseven, of whom forty-one were Nationalists, twenty-seven endorsed Labour, two Federal Labour (the latter are already heavily defeated) and seven Independents.

In the last Parliament, the state of parties was:—Nationalist 18, Labour 11, Independent 1.
