MORE ONE-MAN TRAMS.

Will Be Used on Riccarton Route.

The consent of the Local Bodies Loans Board has been obtained to the raising of a loan of £9OOO by the Christchurch Tramway Board, for the purpose of equipping more one-man cars.

At a meeting of the board to-day, the works and traffic committee reported that it was proposed to borrow only £4500 at present, to equip six one-man cars for the Riccarton line and to construct a balloon loop at Clyde Road. Trailers would disappear except on race and other special days. The net annual saving on the line would be £676, after allowing for increased pay for the drivers, for electric cars to take the place of trailers, for interest and sinking fund which would redeem the loan at maturity.

The rate of interest will be 33 per cent, and the sinking fund 5 per cent, which will redeem the loan in about fifteen years. The report was approved.
