STRENUOUS YEAR.
R.S.A. Membership Grows at Port. The fourth annual meeting of the Lyttelton Sub-Branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association was held at Lyttelton last night. Mr M. Nelson presided over a large attendance. The annual report stated that the executive had had a strenuous financial year. The Women’s Auxiliary had given considerable assistance to the branch and deserved the congratulations of members for their work in raising funds. During the year the membership had increased by ten and nine lionoraiy members had been elected. The executive had spent £lB in relief. The balance-street showed a credit balance of £55. Liabilities were nil as against £47 last year. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Sir R. Heaton Rhodes; president. Mr M. Nelson; vice-presidents, the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes), the Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), Messrs F. E. Sutton, A. M’Donald. T. Porteous, M. Hazel and the Rev E. Hanna: Christchurch vice-president, Mr J. Coxon; committee, Messrs H. G. Scott, .T. Hallidav, .T. M’Naulty, w. Williams. H. Meade. B Smith. W. Smith, V. 11. Rees, J. Kirkwood and A. Jones; honorary secretary. Mr H. H. Batten; honorary treasurer, Mr J. Hallidav; auditors, M’essrs A. Large and C. D. Clarke; honorary trustees, Messrs A. Large, M. Nelson and IT. H. Batten: delegates to the Christchurch Association, Messrs J. Coxon, J. Kirkwood, 11. Meade and IT. 11. Batten. To increase the club’s finances it was decided to arrange a programme of social gatherings, including card touryaments.
