Farewell to Mr and Mrs F. V. Roper. A large number of friends met in the Seamen’s Institute, Lyttelton, on Saturday evening to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs F. V. Roper and family. Mr Roper is leaving Lyttelton for Methven, on promotion as guard. Mr C. Ellis presided. Items were contributed by Messrs Patterson and Couch, Messrs Sinclair and Symons -(duets), Mrs C. Douglas, Opavva, Mr A. Sinclair, Mr L. Symons (songs), Mr Munro (bagpipe solo) and Mr C. Ellis (musical monologue). The accompanists were Miss J. Smith and Miss Napier. Cc.mnetitions were won by Miss and Mr Dyne. Mrs and Mr M’Dowell and Mrs J. W. Morgan. Mr A. K. Dyne, stationmaster at Lyttelton, presented Mr Roper with a -solid leather suit-case and Mrs Roper with a handbag. Mr R. Bamber supplied the music for the dancing. Diamond Harbour Golf Club. The first round of the Diamond Harbour Golf Club’s match for the Jackson Cup resulted as follows:—P. Gilmour, 96—30—66. L. Blewitt was runner-up, with 94—25—69. Young Gilrnour played four strokes under his handicap, and Blewitt one. Personal. Mr and Mrs J. M. Load r left Lyttelton last evening for Wellington and Auckland. Yesterday afternoon Mr and Mrs Loader were entertained at afternoon tea by a number of friends, who later met on the wharf to bid them farewell. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr John Porteous was passed at a meeting of the Lyttelton R.S.A. last evening.
