Empire-wide Messages of Congratulation. QUIET CELEBRATIONS. United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 7, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 6. The twenty-fourth anniversary of the King’s accession was celebrated quietly. The “Te Deum ” was sung at St Paul’s, and the anthem written for the coronation of James 11. and a special Collect were used throughout the country. Their Majesties attended morning service in their private chapel at Windsor Castle. They received telephonic congratulations from the Prince of Wales, the Duke of York and Prince George. The Duke of Gloucester lunched with his parents. Many hundreds of messages were received from all parts of the Empire. Traditional customs were observed at the Palace, the servants toasting their Majesties in champagne. Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace on Monday, when the Royal Salute of twenty-one guns will be fired in Hyde Park. No arrangements have vet been made for special celebrations on the twenty-fifth anniversary next year.
