FLOOD MENACE.

West Coast Facing Big Problem. LOCAL BODIES CONCERNED. Per Press Association. , GREYMOUTH, May 3. . In view of the imminent danger of the Teremakau River breaking into the Orangipuke River at Inchbonnie and so discharging into Lake Brunner, I both County and Borough Councils to-night discussed the matter, the former having to-day inspected the place where less than one chain now separates the rivers. It is considered that certain spring floods will cause a diversion of the Teremakau unless preventive measures are taken. Flooding of the Arnold and Grey valleys, in the former of which the Power Board’s station is located, would probably result from a breakthrough. Erosion of farm lands at Inchbonnie would also result. A local bodies’ conference is being held to-morrow. The proposal is to expend £ISOO in erecting a stop bank and groynes.
