SHIPPING

COASTAL.

PORT OF LYTTELTON. City of Tokio Meets Heavy Weather. Heavy weather was experienced by shipping along the coast last evening, and a message was received from the City of Tokio this morning that she was standing off the coast, awaiting better conditions. She is not expected at Lyttelton now till late this afternoon, at the earliest. The Wahine also met heavy weather on the trip from Wellington, but berthed at 6.55 a.m. The Poolta, from Timaru, was expected at 1 o’clock. She was facing into the gale. There was no work on the waterfront this morning except on the inter.island steamer, and even if the Poolta and City of Tokio berth, it is doubtful if conditions will allow of any work being done. The bad weather has caused hold-ups to shipping throughout New Zealand. VESSELS IN PORT. Poolta. Gladstone Pier east. Wahine, No. 2 west. City of Tokio, No. 3 west. ARRIVALS. YESTERDAY.
