Good Football Likely in Charity Cup Match. WESTERN IMPROVED. Bringing together the champion teams of last season, the annual Charity Cup match will be played at English Park to-morrow. The cup, presented by Mr P. Scott-Ramsay, is for annual competition between the winners of the Hurley Shield competition and the English Cup for the previous 3'ear. Last season, Thistle won both these trophies. Western were runnersup in the Hurley Shield competition, entitling them to meet Thistle in this game. The same teams contested the Charity Cup match last year, when Thistle won. This season, both teaVns have shown good form in their early competition engagements. Western have scored thirteen goals, with only two against them, in defeating Rangers, St Albans and Linwood, and they impress as a more dangerous side than in the past two or three seasons. The re-shuffling of their forward line, with the inclusion of G. Ellis, Ilulme and Donovan, has considerably strengthened the attack and, despite Roberts’s absence, the defence remains solid. Thistle have played two competition games, and against Nomads and Technical Old Boys t>ie,v have been more seriously extended than in any competition match for a long period. In the face of that, their defence has remained unshaken. Mitchell’s increased confidence between the sticks seeming to lend more confidence to the men in front of him. Adam is showing excellent form at centre-forward, and the policy of keeping him veil served with the ball has proved a profitable Thistle’s chances are favoured, but it should be a fine game, producing fast, hard and clever football. from the remaining senior clubs will meet the Lyttelton Club’s junior team, a strong - combination. The sole selector. Mr R. O. Priddis, has taken this opportunity to try out some of the province’s younger material, and the performances of such players as Craggs. Smith, M. and A. Gordon and M’Rae will be watched with interest. The team will he: M’Rae. Teichert, Fail. M. Gordon. A. Gordon, Stoddart. Sharr, Craggs, Smith, Thomas, Wilson. Reserves: Miller, J. Whyte. Douglas. Jotting's. A. Bissett is the second player to leave the Technical Old Boys this season. F. Neate, right-back, has transferred to Wellington, and after this week Bissett will also be located there, as a member of the New Permanent Forces, Artillery Section. Following are the principal goalscorers in the three series of Hurley Shield matches played this season: Ives (Western) 5, Adam (Thistle) 5, G. Ellis (Western) 4, Sloan (Rangers) 3, Thomas (Linwood) 3. Ives’s goals have been scored in three games, Adam's in two.
