GOLFER’S DEATH.

(Received April 17, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, April IGI The death is announced of Andrew Kirkaldy, the golf professional. Andrew Kirkaldy, who was 74 years of age, was a professional at the Royal and Ancient Club, St Andrews. He tied for the championship in 1879, 1889 and 1891, being beaten in the play-off on each occasion. He was third in 1895 and 1899, and in 1891 beat Willie Park in a four.-green match (Musselburgh, St Andrews, Prestwick and Troon) by 8 and 7. Four years later he beat the then champion, J. H. Taylor, in a match for £SO a side by one hole at St Andrews. He lost to his great rival, Ben Sayers, in 1911 in a 72-hole match at Sunningdale and Walton Heath by 6 and 5. He played for Scotland against England in 1904OS and 1909-10 and was chosen for the match in 1910, which was abandoned owing to rain. In his youth Kirkaldy went right through the Egyptian campaign, including the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir.
