Blinded Ex-soldiers’ Reunion.
The first reunion for ten years of New Zealand ex-soldiers who lost their sight in consequence of wai service will be held from April 23 to 2 ;>, at the New Zealand Institute for the Blind. Auckland, which is organising the gathering in conjunction with St Dunstan’s Hostel for Blinded Soldiers and Sailors, London. Twenty blinded soldiers and their wives are expected at the reunion. The blinded soldiers will discuss matters affecting their welfare, and will be entertained at afternoon tea at Government House by the Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe. Most of the blinded soldiers received a course of training under the late Sir Arthur Pearson at St Dunstan’s, while those who lost their sight later were trained at the institute in Auckland. The first reunion was held at the institute in April, 1924 On that occasion Lord Jellicoe unveiled a memorial tablet to Sir Arthur Pearson.
