“Shoot the Owners!”
“ Please send me all particulars about collars, and let me know what I am to do with dogs whose owners refuse to register them,” wrote a prospective dog tax collector at the last meeting of the Waitotara County Council. His question recalls an incident that is still vivid in the minds of Farmers' Union delegates to an inter-pro-vincial conference in Masterton some years ago. The same problem was being discussed there. “ What shall we do with dogs whose owners refuse to register them?” Quick as a flash the late Mr Alexander Howie supplied the answer. “ Shoo; the owners,” he said.
