MODERN BIBLE.
General Synod Approves of Proposal. EXPERT. CONSIDERATION. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, April 13. A motion for the adoption of a form of the Bible more in keeping with the best of modern book production was carried by the General Synod of the Anglican Church during its session at Napier this afternoon. The motion was moved by Archdeacon G. 11. Gavin. An amendment by Canon Percival James, to the effect that an investigation be made into what modern versions of the Bible were in existence, and that these be referred to those people who desired the modern version, was lost. The Synod requested the Primate to appoint a commission to confer with other religious bodies and with the Radio Broadcasting Board regarding the broadcasting of church services. It was also decided to appoint a committee to consider the desirability of renewing the publication of sermons for lay readers, and to report to the Synod. The text of the seolution relating to the Bible is as follows: “ That the General Synod of New Zealand considers that the time has come when it is advisable to cease publication of the Authorised Version of the Bible in its present form and to adopt a form more in keeping with the best modern book production; that it believes there is a large public ready to welcome such a change, and that it is convinced it would greatly facilitate public reading of the Bible and lead to a more intelligent study of it in private reading.”
