Committee Reviews Year of Many Activities. The annual meeting of the Women’s Unemployment Committee was held yesterday when the many activities of that body for the year were reviewed The annual report showed that the year began with a live list of 200, and that there had been 481 new registrations, 400 having been placed in positions. A hundred and thirteen names had been deleted from the register. The cookery centres had supplied 47,834 meals and sewing centre had manufactured 1669 articles of wearing apparel for women and girls, 372 of which were made for the Mayoress and 357 for the Metropolitan Relief Depot In addition 611 articles had been repaired. The cookery training centre had placed 58 candidates for examination. 45 of whom had passed. The Advisory Committee had dealt with nine applications for subsidised wages, declining three. Room rents were granted to eleven girls. Also the investigating officer had visited fortyfour homes. The Sister of the Children’s Ward at the Christchurch Hospital acknowledged the gift of a patchwork dressing gown from the sewing girls.
