Sub-branch Reviews Year of Hard Work. MEETING AT SPREYDON. A successful year's work in the face of great difficulties was reported at the annual meeting of the Sydenham-Cash-mere-Spreydon sub-branch of the Plunket Society, which was held 111 St Nicholas Schoolroom, Spreydon, yesterday afternoon. Mrs .T. Cracroft Wilson, patroness of the branch, presided over a large attendance. The annual report stated that the work of the sub-branch had been sustained, though it had been found exceedingly difficult owing to the times of stress to collect subscriptions. It was gratifying, however, to be able to report ttjat the year had closed with the finances in a satisfactory state. The receipts had amounted fo £lOl Is sd, and the payments to £lOl, leaving a credit balance of £3 Is sd, which, with £6 5s 5d brought forward, left a total credit of £9 6s lOd. Nurse E. Bowron's report showed a slight falling-off in the number of cases dealt with, largely owing to the decline in the birth rate. The grand total of cases dealt with was 5636. During the year, the report continued, Mrs Stanley Wilkinson was appointed assistant honorary treasurer. The report recorded with regret the death of Mrs R. L. Riekerby, a member of the honorary committee. A garden fete was held on February 16 at Cashmere House and the net amount raised was £9O 15s Bd, from which £SO was handed to the main Christchurch branch for the Karitane Hospital, and the balance applied to the general funds of the subbranch. The sub-branch was entrusted with the plant and flower stall on Violet Day and was successful in raising the sum of £122 15s 4d. Regret was expressed at the resignation from the honorary committee of Mrs Leonard Clark owing to her leaving for the Old Country, and the resignations of Mrs A. F. Wright, president of the branch, and Mrs H. Wales, the honorary secretary. The report also expressed thanks to the ministers and office-bearers of St Nicholas and St David's Churches, and to Mr W. A. Smith, the honorary auditor. Work on Violet Day. Mrs Cracroft Wilson expressed thanks to the branch for the work it had done on Violet Day and the assistance it had given to the funds of the Karitane hospital. Mrs Wright said she was compelled by home ties to resign the position of president, and she took the opportunity of thanking the committee for the magnificent help it had given her during her term of office. Wills, H. C. Barnett and A. J. Derbidge; honorary committee, Mesdames A. F. AVright, T. N. Gibbs, .T. E. Thomson, P. S. Harris, PI. AVales and Miss E. Bowron; auditor, Mr W. A. Smith. Mrs Gilmour, president of the Lyttelton branch, gave an address on the work of the society. At the conclusion of Mrs Gilmour’s talk, Mrs Cracroft Wilson spoke on the work of the Karitane Hospital and referred to the financial difficulties that had to be faced at present in carrying it on. Afternoon tea was provided.
