BIG ART EXHIBITION.
Valuable Collection Brought to New Zealand. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 13. “ This is the best collection of British art that has come south of the Equator,” said Mr C. R. Chisman, organiser of the Empire Art Loan Collection Society, who arrived by the Rangitata with 250 pictures. Mr Chisman said that among the many famous artists represented were D. Y. Cameron. Fry, Grant, Holmes, Augustus John, M’Evoy, Orpen, Pissa T r ,°> Sargent, Sickert, Whistler and Wilson Steer. The sending of the collection was the outcome of the ef- i forts of Mr P. R. Sargood. of Dunedin Seventy years of contemporary British art was represented. Several pictures were insured for over £IOOO each, and the total insurance was £30.000. The first exhibition will be held in Dunedin, and the pictures will then go to Auckland, Brisbane and Adelaide. There is a possibility that Wellington will *be included in the list.
